SYSA is a sports organization unlike any other in its contribution to the youth and families of our community.  It its the mission of Spokane Youth Sports Association to provide sports activities for all youth, where everyone plays, develops skills, is taught good sportsmanship, and learns the value of being a team player.  For more information on SYSA visit www.sysa.com or see our About Us Page.

History of SYSA

In 1965 Dwight Merkel and a group of Spokane men organized Spokane Junior Football that began play in 1966 with 284 boys.

In 1976 Soccer was added and soon the organization changed its name to Spokane Youth Sports Association.

In 2001 SYSA, in collaboration with the Spokane community, purchased the land and developed the northeast sport complex known as Andrew Rypien Field.

Historically, SYSA sports have included Football: Tackle and Flag; Soccer: Recreational, Competitive, and Indoor; Softball; Baseball; Track & Field; Cross Country; Golf; the Ski Bus; Speed & Agility and Sport Camps; Lacrosse; Basketball; and Volleyball.

SYSA now involves over 9,000 boys and girls, and 800 volunteer coaches, participating in various SYSA sport activities and it the largest provider of youth sports in Spokane!  Thank you for your support, without the community behind us we could never have developed through the years to become the youth sports organization we are today.
